In the Pit
The leatherboys are back, and we’re gonna be in trouble. The newly formed San Diego Leatherboys is a nonprofit organization dedicated to camaraderie, brotherhood, education and service. The San Diego “boy” scene has been up and down for a number of years, so let’s hope this batch of boys can bring new life – or at least hot boys – into the movement. If you think you identify as a boy or if you find yourself screaming “Daddy!” or “Papi!” during and after being done right, chances are you have the makings of a boy.
The boy’s first meeting will be on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lumberjack Grille, 3949 Ohio St. After the meeting, the boys will formally present their banner to the San Diego Eagle. For more information, please contact the San Diego Leatherboys at info@sdleatherboys.org or visit www.sdleatherboys.org.
This Saturday is L.L. Bear at Rich’s, and they just keep getting better – like an old jockstrap. The last one in August was too crowded, too hot, too sexy and too much to handle! Just how we like ’em! L.L. Bear begins at 9:00 p.m. Don’t try getting there “fabulously” late or you and your “fabulous” self will be waiting in line looking “not-so-fabulous.”
Up north this weekend, in “Fagdad By-The-Bay,” leather daddies and drag queens will be trading in their boots and heels for sneakers and sensible flats. At least the wise ones will be, and we know not all daddies and drag queens are wise!
They’re all getting ready for Mama Sandy Reinhardt’s LeatherWalk, which benefits the AIDS Emergency Fund and the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund. For years, “Mama” has worked to build an international family who helps with fund-raising, awareness, etc. Mama’s Family members are recognized by the pins they wear with their “family name” on it like, “UPITY SLAVE.” Hmm… wonder who that could be?
It all begins on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 12:00 noon in the Castro, when the leather flag replaces the rainbow flag for Leather Week, which ends the following Sunday with the Folsom Street Fair. Props to the Castro queens for letting them take down that huge rainbow flag for a minute, let alone a week!
The three-mile walk begins at 440 Castro St. and ends at The Eagle Tavern. After the walk, the South of Market Bare Chest Calendar Men will be auctioned off for dinner dates, with the proceeds benefiting the AIDS Emergency Fund and the Positive Resource Center.
If you’re going to San Fran for Leather Week, take advantage of your tourist status, but don’t bother making online dates that you probably won’t keep. Since there’ll be horned up guys from all over the world, go for the variety pack: European (any kind), Latin (uncut), Midwesterner (probably white), New Yorker (anyone with attitude), Floridian (probably nonwhite), black (any shade of), Asian (continental or P.I.) or a fusion of various man meat. Just don’t take a significant other or significant-other wannabe who’ll cause drama. San Franians create their own drama but don’t allow any from outsiders.
Mr. San Diego Leather, Buster, and San Diego Leather boy, boy Harold, are planning the second annual Leather and Lace Ball to be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Rich’s. The masquerade ball will benefit The Storefront emergency shelter, San Diego’s only emergency shelter program for street youth, with the remainder going toward the Mr. San Diego Leather 2006 Travel Fund.
The theme is “Forbidden Planets, Forbidden Lives.” The evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. More info on this later, but start thinking about your costumes now. If you can’t come up with a costume, then find someone “fabulous” who can. They aren’t called “fabulous” for nothing, and “fabulous” people do everything “fabulously,” especially when it comes to making “fabulous” costumes.
Finally, congratulations to Mr. San Diego Eagle 2006, Ray, and his partner, Stephen, who are tying the knot this weekend. Ray and Stephen have worked hard this past year in the leather community and we wish them many long, happy, decadent years.
For once I’ll end on a mushy, sentimental note – but only this once. If you have something coming up that you want mentioned, don’t send it to my “tricking” e-mail address unless you attach naked pics of yourself. Write to the other e-mail address, inthepitsd@aol.com. See ya In The Pit.
