Spotlight on DJ Eddie X
DJ Eddie X has been the “it” guy of the circuit scene for more than 15 years, innovating deep house in Los Angeles in the early ’90s, and later bringing his signature sound to Miami. During that time, he has worked with such industry giants as Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Anastasia and others. Today, Eddie can be found spinning at “Ken” at Avalon in Los Angeles, and will be making a San Diego appearance on Saturday, May 5, until 10 a.m. the following day.
He began his career as a dancer and went on to choreograph shows and videos for Black Box and C&C Music Factory. Meanwhile, he was out at the clubs, soaking up what would be the dawn of the big house sound of New York City.
When Eddie moved to L.A. to pursue choreography, he became frustrated with the clubbing options, and he and a friend started a club night called “Temple” – it was one of the few spots where people could party all night. Within weeks, revelers were lined up outside the club.
As L.A. slowed and Miami became the country’s nightlife hub, Eddie sprang into action. He was summoned in 1996 to spin a night at the legendary Warsaw Ballroom in South Beach and soon was tapped to play a Friday gay night. After five years, “Pump” became the longest running club in South Beach.
When “Pump” closed in 2003, Eddie had established himself as an international sensation and a master remixer.
Eddie X’s rise has been a thrill to watch. With his level head, keen taste and innovative style, it looks as if the best is yet to come.
Eddie X will be spinning at the official Havana Nights afterparty at Bacchus House on Saturday, May 5, until 10 a.m. Sunday morning. For more information, visit www.bacchushouse.com.
