Folsom St. Fair San Francisco 2006
In the Pit
Don’t forget next Saturday, Oct. 21, is the second annual Leather and Lace Ball to be held at Rich’s. The theme is “Forbidden Planets, Forbidden Lives,” and will benefit Storefront Emergency Shelter. The price is $20, but like I said, “It’s a benefit,” which means the fun is for you but the money is for someone else. So part with the cash and quit bitching about it!
You’ll all be at the L.L. Bear dance afterward anyway, so go three hours earlier and get first dibs on the Saturday night date prospects. This one is brought to you by Mr. San Diego Leather 2006 Buster and San Diego Leatherboy 2006 boy Harold.
It’s so cute to see them working together, but you have to know which one is the Mr. Leather and which one is the leatherboy. Buster, Mr. Leather, is the shorter, cute, slightly-balding guy who looks like a boy, while boy harold is the taller one who looks like a daddy. Confused?
Speaking of confusion, what made 70-plus leather people think they could roller skate and look good doing it? At least the gay leather men thought we could look good doing it. The gay women or leather dykes looked like the gay men were just in their way. The hetero folks – well, the hetero folks didn’t care how they looked; they rarely do.
There was pinball, snow cones and a goody bag with a ric-rac in it. A ric-rac is a paddle with a ball on a long rubber band, for you people who are not from the South and have never heard of such a thing. Paddles and balls! Now that’s a good time! Of course there was the hokey-pokey. You gotta have the hokey-pokey. We were putting it in and out and shaking it all about: while on wheels! Sounds like a party we went to a few weeks back minus the wheels.
Off topic: Those parties need to happen on a more regular basis. Hint!

Back on topic: All of this happened at Skate World and was sponsored by Buster, San Diego Mr. Leather 2006. Yes, I’m tired of bringing up his name too, but if I didn’t tell you what he was doing every moment of the day, then everyone would be bitching that he’s not doing anything, whether he is or not.
The other sponsor was Mark O’Keefe, Mr. San Diego Leather 1997. Buster and Mark working together is like a leather episode of “Generations.” The good Mr. Leathers never go away! They may take breaks every now and then, but they never go away! Hear that, former Mr. Leathers who need a break: You must never go away!
Speaking of never going away, Mr. San Diego Leather 2004 Adam Latham is now working at the new Redwing patio bar at 4012 30 St. Personally, I thought that bar was a shoe store, but apparently it’s not, and they have been getting quite involved with the leather-ish community as of late. Go in and say hi to Adam. He’ll be the tall, good-looking one in the title vest, sash and medallion behind the bar.
If you’re in need of some culture, the Pleasures & Treasures Erotic Art Gallery & Leather Boutique is displaying works by Jim Hennum until Saturday, Oct. 14. Pleasures & Treasures is located at 2228 University Ave., next door to the bathhouse. If you’re pretending to not know where the bathhouse is, Pleasures & Treasures is across from Albertsons. They also have a consignment room and are taking in and reselling previously owned leather goods. So if you have something that I’ll fit into – give it to me!
Speaking of giving it to me, last weekend was the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Weekend in L.A. I’ll have a semi-full report next time. If you must, you can write me at inthepitsd@aol.com to tell me what’s going on in your life. Not really, but if you have an event to list, write me.
See ya in the pit!
