Mad for military madness
Grab your fatigues because Saturday, Jan. 27, is Military Madness Night at Club Montage.
Military Madness Night celebrates all the military men and women who serve and have served, and those who support our military. San Diego has the largest saturation of military personnel in the nation, and what better place to start a club trend worth keeping? These hot men and women are not only dangerous in the field but also on the dance floor.
We can thank Steve Peña, a Navy man himself, for his work in bringing us such an event. His work in the local scene has not only promoted the members of our armed forces, but also has given them a place to have fun and let their hair down.
Rocket magazine snagged an exclusive interview with the man behind the hot music, electric atmosphere and sexy camis.
Rocket: Why did you start throwing Military Madness parties?
Steve Peña: We realized there wasn’t really anything catered to those who serve, have served and are in the military. I’ve been doing house parties for the entire time I’ve been stationed in California – over nine years – and that was the biggest way and the only way a lot of people that we know in our large circle of friends and those who were stationed here could get together. It started out really small, but once people started hearing about it, it grew and grew. … It’s growing really big and we’re hoping to expand it out of San Diego to other big military spots across the nation. San Diego has the largest military saturation in the nation.
Rocket: What can we expect at Club Montage on Jan. 27?
SP: Firstly, we have Amuka. She’s one of the largest, hottest people right now in the circuit scene. She has a lot of dance songs. One of them is “Appreciate Me”; another is “I Want More.” They’re really big dance songs and a lot of people will know them in the club scene. Her site is www.amuka.net. We are also going to have porn superstar Brent Everett – he’ll be dancing and making an appearance. He originally moved down to L.A. from Vancouver to get in on our movie scene. Brent’s site is www.brentxxx.com. We also have one of the co-owners of Channel 1 [who will be] DJing, and her name is Chi Chi LaRue. She will be spinning upstairs at Montage. Chi Chi and Channel 1’s site is www.channel1releasing.com.
Rocket: Is this directed only toward military personnel?
SP: No. Military Madness Night celebrates all those who serve, have served and love the military. That also means all those who are attracted to them or just want to celebrate alongside them. This is a night where everyone is welcome. If you’re in the military, you understand this well. There is not one type of person you work with. There are all types of people and personalities; men, women, boys, girls. You have all types of religions, ethnicities, sexes and body types. What Military Madness Night does is celebrate the same way. It’s not a night for one type, but for all. We don’t believe in discriminating [against] anyone in anyway. If you want to come and enjoy some kick-ass music and some hot entertainment, then come and party with us.
Rocket: What does it take to organize such an event?
SP: I’ve always loved throwing parties, and I love getting people together. I met a lot of people in San Diego … a lot of the club owners … and that’s what opened a lot of doors for me. I did a lot of research – Googling a lot of things, finding out who the managers were. They thought it was different, new and something that wasn’t really in San Diego. There aren’t a lot of things aimed toward the GLBT community when it comes to the military. We wanted to be the first. Right now, we are the largest in the nation leaning toward the GLBT military community. We have a lot of people coming in from across the nation. Many are flying into wherever our events are taking place.
Rocket: What do you enjoy most about putting this all together?
SP: I love the faces. I love the crowd. I love to see everyone having a great time. I love the energy. It’s someplace where everybody – especially if you’re in the military or friends of military people – to all get together, have a great time with no inhibitions involved without discrimination. I love seeing people come back and hear people say: “You know, this has been an awesome night. I can’t wait for the next one.”
