PRIDE BY NIGHT
As if the Pride festival wasn’t enough of a party, night falls and San Diego’s bars, clubs, event producers and other event venues flip on the disco balls and the fun continues. But how does one choose? With all of the regular bars and clubs throwing amazing parties, along with the circuit parties, private house parties and other special events around town, the only dilemma, besides choosing the right outfit to wear, is picking the party to be at!
There are, of course, the well-known Powerhouse Productions Pride parties, with a lineup of five amazing parties. On Friday, July 28, DJ Joe Gauthreaux spins from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. aboard the California Spirit for the harbor cruise. Also that evening is the Pride Ball with DJ Brett Henrichsen keeping the crowd dancing from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. at 4th & B.
Powerhouse keeps the party going on Saturday night, July 29, with the huge Circuit Daze party inside the San Diego Sports Arena from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. This event will feature a special performance by Debby Holiday. This is one of San Diego’s biggest parties of the year!
The party continues on Sunday, July 30. If you haven’t been to The Zoo Party in the past, add it to your party itinerary for this year! DJs Phil B. and Tony Moran, as well as Kristine W. will rock the San Diego Zoo for an amazing evening starting at 4:00 p.m. and running until 11:00 p.m. After The Zoo Party, Powerhouse invites you to top off your Pride weekend with another event, Fete Acompli. where DJs Abel and Ralphi Rosario, a.k.a. Rosabel, will rock 4th & B starting at 11:00 p.m., and keep you moving until Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. More information can be obtained at www.powerhouse-productions.com.
Certainly you could fill your entire Pride weekend with those events, but we’ve barely even scratched the surface! On Friday or Sunday night, you’re invited to head over to Aubergine downtown (500 Fourth Ave.), as Heidi Kinney presents Pride Uncovered. People are saying that these two parties are “not to be missed!” There is even going to be a limousine shuttle service to the party from Bourbon Street on Friday night and from Hamburger Mary’s on Sunday night. Call (619) 997-1129 for more information.
Also happening downtown, at Stingaree (454 Sixth Ave.), is Pulse Media’s Pride Kickoff, with an exclusive appearance by Kristine W. The event begins at 6:00 p.m., and you will have the opportunity to get an autographed copy of the Kristine W. CD.
Another Friday night option (and an ideal one for our friends between the ages of 18 and 20), would be to take a quick 20-minute drive south, cross into Tijuana, and check out Club Extasis. Club Papi will be presenting a special party south of the border, which will include two caliente dance floors and a latinboyz.com darkroom for the adventurous boys.
But there’s certainly no reason to venture outside the comfort of Hillcrest, as our favorite bars and clubs will be rolling out the rainbow carpet for some of their biggest parties of the year!
On Friday night, The Brass Rail presents “Urban Jam,” a special return of hip-hop, R&B and hot urban beats with DJ Abel and DJ Squeek. Or just stroll down the streets of Hillcrest and check out any bar or club, and you’re certain to find something to get you moving.
Get your Saturday night started off early at Hamburger Mary’s from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with their Parade T-Dance. Then pop in to Rich’s for Salvation, as DJ Kimberly S. “spins her ass off” to keep the crowds moving until 2:00 a.m. Bourbon Street has Boys Night Out with San Diego’s hottest DJs and go-go boys at 8:00 p.m. Check out Club Montage for DJ Jon Bishop (One World Entertainment) and DJ Lydia Prim (DFL Management) with residents DJ Casper, DJ Goner and DJ Phon.
On Sunday night, head on back over to Hamburger Mary’s for a special Pride edition of Detour, which will start and 5:00 p.m. Club Papi heads over to Numbers for a special Christian Castro CD Release Party from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. And Bacchus House hosts the Finale Morning Party from 2:00 to 8:00 a.m. (afterhours), with DJ Jon Williams and DJ Wuisa.
Remember that this year’s Pride theme is “Equality! No Turning Back.” Take at least a moment to reflect on our community’s progress and be proud of who you are. Then go party! Whatever you choose to do on Pride weekend, make sure you take time to enjoy it with friends, and play safely. We want to be able to party with you at Pride 2007!
